THE 18TH
SHAMBHALA MUSIC FESTIVAL
AUGUST 3RD
– 8TH 2016
Shambhala Music Festival located on the gorgeous Salmon River Ranch in Salmo, BC is celebrating its 18th year of success this year and continues its reputation of being so much more then just a "rave." We personally have 3 Shambhalas under our belt, 2009 and 2013, attending as a Patron and returning in 2014 as a volunteer. My experience a
s a Patron rocked my little world 7 years ago and left me dreaming of the next summer I was able to make it to that Ranch. It was breathtaking in a way that isn't only visually stunning but breathtaking from the atmosphere flowing through the air. Their is pure unconditional love and acceptance felt cohesively with over ten thousand people.

"I felt like I had finally found a place that felt right. It felt like a home, like everything in my life had lead me to arrive at Shambhala. I had never really even been to any Clubs at all so I was nervous to say the least. The sense of comfort and friendship I was met with from the moment we pulled our car into the pre-show line up blew my mind. " Shannon, 24 years old, Banff AB
"Shambhala was the first place that I was ever able to be around thousands of strangers and not have my anxiety through the roof. I have claustrophobia, I can't stand crowds. Shambhala is different, its something you can just sense" Misty, 19 Vancouver BC
A huge part of what makes Shambhala so special is there is also, by festival standards ground-breaking services available in the hopes of preventing any medical emergencies that may arise. The Drug Testing tent is located right next to downtown and gives patrons the unique opportunity to take their illicit substances to be tested. Ensuring they are getting what they wanted festival goers can let go of the fear of being deceived or the threat of a bad trip. The best part about the whole tent experience ? It is, like the rest of the festival, completely void of any judgement or ridicule, it's truly a service set up with the spirit of your safety as it's premier theme.
One cannot speak on the importance placed on ensuring the patrons are safe without mentioning the Sanctuary. Located in middle of countless tall evergreen trees to create a cool and comfortable environment, the sanctuary is full of made beds, couches and hammocks for anyone who is feeling less then stellar. The festival entrusts only it's most responsible and personable employees and volunteers to be stationed within the Sanctuary because it is by definition a safe place for anyone who needs to rest, talk or just breathe for a minute.
Equipped with PK speakers that will blow bass in your face you've only dreamt of, Shambhala showcases 7 exotic and unique stages to enjoy.
As you enter, you’re surrounded by not only intense bass and blissful beats, but tree forts interconnected by catwalks and bridges circling the dance floor that shape the upper and outer edges of our Village. Pulsing spires and rooftops depict an ancient dialect of the now extinct Krinkoia, extra-terrestrial travelers who touched down to call this place home some million years ago.
Turn your attention to the full stage nestled under an 80-foot half geodesic structure where you’ll find the most amazing artists in this or any other world. DJ’s, break-dancers, performance art, turntablists, MC’s, aerialists, the Village has it all. If that wasn’t enough, 200,000 watts of premium PK Sound will be sure to get your blood pumping…or your body shaking! Come join us, it was built for you!
Every home has a Living Room. The Pride and family have been nurturing this space for 16 years, and there’s a chair in the river waiting for you. The only non-permanent stage, The Living Room is rearranged yearly due to the ever-changing landscape of the Salmo River in spring. Like the ebb and flow of the river, the landscape of our space will follow.
Still playing the main role of Shambhala’s “chill” stage, with the glacier fed river we have loved so much over the years and the selection of artists and DJs that compliment this atmosphere, we take pride in keeping it deeply rooted in the Kootenays and local community.
Head designer and artistic engineer Mich at Barn-Barn has once again created the ultimate beach beacon for our temple of sound and lighting provided by PK Sound and BentMatter, complementing the lush natural surroundings and all our beautiful friends and family.
The Living Room
The Living Room is your home and sanctuary to come back to earth (or space) when you need to ground yourself and feel the love of your friends and family you have loved and lost over the years.
We have dedicated this stage to those souls who are no longer with us today, and their will memory will live forever through us here. Robert Borecky, Ryan Tapp, San, Mike Nyuis, Wayne King, Dancing Ken, Amy, Jade, Ruby, Ian, Saul, Sol, Paul, Tiffa, Otto, Jon H & Pamela, Matreya, Alma, Heidi, Josh, Osprey.
The Fractal Forest
Get ready for the next level as the most unique stage in the world takes its passengers on a journey into enlightenment. The sacred starship enters its 18th year of evolution, and is pulling out all the stops in 2016 to bring you the most amazing audio visual experience ever witnessed.
The Fractal Forest™ is a show within a show within a show. DJs play in the heart of the forest out of a burnt out old-growth cedar tree stump, surrounded by 360 degrees of the most beautiful dancers on the planet. Pyramids and flowers are everywhere in the enchanted woodland and if you keep your eyes peeled you may see friendly forest creatures as well as gnomes, fairies, pixies and magic mushrooms galore.
Please join us on the funky spaceship for this epic journey to the 12th dimension and back… boarding at noon, August 5th, 2016 in the Fractal Forest™.
The Pagoda
The Pagoda Stage is based around DANCE music, plain and simple, but always unreal. Known as Shambhala’s Main Stage, the music is not genre specific, but rather a happy/comfortable vibe, featuring one of the best audio visual productions on the planet. The sights and sounds will blow your mind, and 2016 will be no exception.
Expect sick new renovations, more art, more lights, more decor, more sound, more insane video mapping, and more LOVE! See you there!
The Grove
Deep within the Shambhala forest lies a sacred space that has constantly evolved over the years. Influenced by a variety of stellar contributing artists, the space formerly known as the Labyrinth will transform into what we’re calling, The Grove. In this magical stand of old-growth forest you will find a place of natural solace, a welcoming dance floor surrounded by towering cedar trees, lush pathways, creative art installations and interactive chill zones. The musical focus will feature deep sounds in world beat, down-tempo, glitch-hop, psychedelic dub, and a variety of live bands.
The Grove is an invitation to immerse yourself in a fully interactive environment that celebrates conscious living. Each day of the festival will welcome workshops for personal expansion and creative thought, live painting, responsive art installations and cool forest lounge areas. After sunset The Grove will transform, awakening with a full spectrum sound system and state of the art lighting and visuals designed to enliven and free the senses. The new organic stage orientation will provide a beautiful backdrop for theatrical performance art and world renown musical acts. Along side the main stage festival goers will undoubtedly be drawn to the Dream Temple Art Gallery, Hive Tea Lounge and the Mythosphere.
Welcome to the Village! A supernatural, sci-fi, Tiki town tucked away at the back of the most pristine Kootenay mountain location imaginable… Shambhala!

My year as a volunteer with Shambhala was bands down the best experience of all three years. I was motivated at the idea of being a part of putting the magic together even if I was the smallest cog on grind. It was exactly as I expected it be, people were even more loving, accepting and supportive. I met friends who I will never forget and found myself in a whole new way.
